![]() At that point the game goes from "how does Igor survive" to "how does NAR survive him?" BFG: The game includes a powerful rail gun that acts like a semi-auto rifle that just punches through almost everything, but the true BFG of the game is the Plasma Gun which even functions similarly to the classic Doom BFG: A slow moving green ball of energy that explodes on contact and kills pretty much everything around it.Killing in self-defense during a hot firefight doesn't hurt his psyche (usually), but it is guaranteed to take a hit if he uses a lethal takedown on an enemy or snipes an unaware enemy. Action Survivor: Igor's a physics scientist with little to no experience with firearms, but he's capping NAR soldiers like a pro within a few hours of raiding the zone (though he seems to feel pretty bad about it). However, Igor isn't the first person to have thought of that, the Exclusion Zone once again hosts a sizeable presence of Russian forces from the specially formed NAR division. Or rather, he is interested in seizing Chernobylite, the mineral formed as the result of nuclear meltdown which was found to have a range of properties defying conventional physics up to and including the potential to control the flow of time, and using that to reunite with Tatyana no matter what. The protagonist is a scientist named Igor Khymynuk, whose fiancé Tatyana went missing at the time of the Chernobyl disaster, who comes back the Exclusion Zone to search for her thirty years later. The game was based off of their earlier experience creating a VR model of Pripyat it was funded on Kickstarter on May 11th, 2019, and released into Steam Early Access on October 16th, 2019, with a full release for PC on July 28, 2021, and for consoles on September 7, 2021. PS5 Stock: Where To Buy PlayStation 5 in February 2023 I'd also strongly recommend playing with Russian VO as not only is it more atmospheric, it's much, much better than the English VO.Īs for bugs, I've still encountered a few minor ones and had a single crash but it's much closer to "perfect" than it is "broken". I wouldn't say the 4k Ray Tracing (Shadows and surface reflections) are worth the drop in frames as the 1080p 60fps mode is actually incredibly clear considering, and I usually don't go for modes dropping the resolution that much. Has some pretty dramatic lighting in either mode. Theres even a light version of Mass Effect 2's buddy quest/loyalty system. Farm51 are great at combing all kinds of game elements - here we have Fallout/Survival-style RPG item collecting with light base building, plus Metro-esque survival horror and gunplay. ![]() Loved what I've played so far (about 25hrs). This makes any execution you manage to achieve all the more satisfying.Ī seriously good effort to overcome the shortcomings of the PS4 port was made here. Thankfully, intended to be played as a stealth game, but it's a difficult one: enemies have long, more realistic lines of sight. There's just too much fiddling involved and enemies can use this time to get up in your grill. The combat, sadly, is somewhat poor: guns feel lightweight and ineffective, inaccurate. The graphics are rather gorgeous and the whole thing runs as smooth as butter we never noticed any performance problems or frame drops in our hours within the Exclusion Zone - the usually-omnipresent and slightly offensive complaint of "Eurojank" is very much subverted.īuilding up your base, recruiting new comrades to your cause, and sending them out on expeditions to get more resources is all good stuff. What of the core game? It's rather spectacular to look at, in a "desolate remains of the fallen Soviet empire" sort of way. And you're also able to open wormholes and travel through time in order to change the past and undo decisions you've made, which kinda helps with the whole "surviving" thing. Survival is difficult enough as it is, but doing so within the heavily irradiated grounds of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone? That's a whole different kettle of fish, and you don't even have a kettle in Chernobylite.
